My Story
I’ll admit it, I am not a native of Burnsville; I grew up in Circle Pines, MN, a small north suburban community wedged between Blaine and Lino Lakes. I lived in the Twin Cities’ Northern Suburbs all through high school, earning my degree from the University of Minnesota and it is where Nicole and I bought our first home and started our family. Up until 2004, I left only once, to float around the Pacific Ocean upon the U.S.S. Nimitz for 4 years.
And then eighteen years-ago I chose Burnsville as my new hometown, and I haven’t regretted it. Nicole and I were thrilled with the rolling hills and views of downtown Minneapolis, the proximity and access almost to everything, including a shopping mall, a ski hill, as well as the tree lined boulevards, the parks, the festivals, the annual Fire Muster, and other community gatherings, – Burnsville has a real sense of community – and that is why we chose to raise our family here. Believing in a better Burnsville is about having a vision of what you think Burnsville can be and then working together as a community to make that happen. It is about taking ownership of your community and being a part of the solution. My better Burnsville vision began when my boys were in elementary school. I started chaperoning on field trips, helping with the PTO carnival, and even joining the ISD191 Finance Advisory Committee. As my kids started youth sports, I became involved in coaching and serving on some of the boards within the Burnsville Athletic Club (BAC), as treasurer of course, because that is what we accountants do. In 2012, my belief in a better Burnsville went city wide. I joined the Economic Development Commission and after two successful terms, I moved on the Planning Commission in 2019 where I just finished my first term. I was honored to be elected as chair on both commissions. Serving on the city commissions has given me a lot more first-hand involvement in working towards solutions for the city. Besides the regular business of these commissions, I was also a multi-year participant with the Burnsville Commercial Real Estate Council (BCREC), worked with City Council on building the Center Village Vision plan, as well as a part of constructing our city’s 2040 Comprehensive Plan. I will always believe in a better Burnsville, and I want to become even more involved in being a part of the solution. However, I need your help in three areas:
