Solve Ongoing Water Quality Challenges
Burnsville’s water quality challenges have remained unresolved since my last campaign. The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) is now suing the owner of the toxic Burnsville Dump after years of noncooperation. This long-running situation continues to threaten our water resources and hinder economic development.
Yet last fall, both incumbents voted to award that same owner a Community Builder Award. One of those incumbents even campaigned on cleaning up the Burnsville Dump during the last election.
I WOULD HAVE VOTED DIFFERENTLY AND STOOD FIRMLY ON THE SIDE OF CLEAN WATER; I WILL CONTINUE TO STAND FIRM TO ENSURE RESIDENTS REMAIN HEALTHY AND THE CITY CONTINUES TO THRIVE ECONOMICALLY.
Finally Redevelop the Burnsville Center Area
When I last ran, city leadership had invested significant resources creating the Center Village Vision—a long-term plan to redevelop the 426 acres and 77 tax parcels surrounding Burnsville Center. During my tenure as Burnsville’s Economic Development Committee Chair, I collaborated with the City Council to bring the Center Village Vision to life. I was (and still am) deeply motivated to revitalize an area of the city that was (and still is) deeply rooted in community and economic wellbeing.
Since the onset of the plans and under current leadership, the mall has continued to decline while the vision for its future has become stagnant. Redeveloping this area is undoubtedly a challenge, but the absence of consistent leadership and sustained focus has left too much potential untapped.
AS A PROFESSIONAL WITH BROAD FINANCIAL EXPERIENCE, I FIND THIS DEEPLY CONCERNING. BURNSVILLE CAN’T AFFORD TO LET ONE OF ITS MOST IMPORTANT REDEVELOPMENT OPPORTUNITIES CONTINUE TO LANGUISH. I WILL MAKE REVITALIZING THE BURNSVILLE CENTER AREA A TOP PRIORITY.

These are the kinds of practical, achievable goals that residents are asking for—goals that build on Burnsville’s strengths and help move our city forward.
But this vision isn’t mine alone, and I can’t achieve it by myself. That’s why I’m asking for your support.

Burnsville's Endangered Water Quality
Welcome to the MRQ! This was what was to become the Northwest corner of Burnsville according to our 2040 Comprehensive Plan. We call this area in the aerial photo below, the Minnesota River Quadrant (MRQ) District.
As recently as 10 years ago when I was in my first term on the Economic Development Commission, the future for this area was bright. The center of this plan revolved around the Kraemer Quarry, a limestone quarry that has been operating for over 50 years. At the time, it was expected to cease operations. The quarry is as deep as 75 feet in parts and without the intervention of these two inconspicuous water-pumps this quarry would be a man-made lake.

Although the drinking water is currently safe, the unlined waste areas are a future threat to the drinking water supply of Burnsville and Savage, and to the Minnesota River due to potential changes in the groundwater movement when Kraemer Quarry stops pumping.

According to our plan, the area around the lake would
become high-end office/real estate providing a beautiful entrance into Burnsville from the north. Even the Burnsville Sanitary Landfill (BSLI), was about to reach capacity and stop taking waste (according to the original MRQ plan), allowing their site to eventually transition into a championship caliber 18-hole golf course. |
Unfortunately, those plans changed when Kraemer and Sons in 2020, extended their operations until 2040 and our current City Council approved Waste Management to double their current capacity of accepting waste at BSLI and it will continue operations until 2062. Pushing back the MRQ dream to our grandkids, maybe we’ll see it return on the 2070
Comprehensive Plan (sans the golf course).
